Believe it or not, there really was a time in the career of Kenny Loggins that he was not known for recording songs for movie soundtracks. After leaving the duo Loggins and Messina, Kenny’s career began with smooth pop song that he placed on a couple of solo albums. Known to some as “yacht rock,” the likes of Loggins, Christopher Cross and Michael McDonald specialized in these soft rock classics. “This is It” is a great example of such songs. It reached #11 on the HOT 100 in early 1980.
I absolutely love yacht rock music, as well as smooth jazz. Unfortunately my wife is NOT a fan of such songs. If she enters the room when I’m chilling to these classics, I’ve learned to just accept it and turn the volume down.
I’m listening to “This is It” right now. Guess who just entered the room. And guess who just gave me a nasty look.
Memorable lyric: “You think that maybe it’s over. Only if you want to be.”
