Broadway meets disco. Or maybe it’s the other way around?
The #1 song in late 1979 by the queen of pop-broadway (yeah, I just came up with that phrase) Barbra Streisand and the queen of disco, the late Donna Summer, was on its way down the charts in the early ’80s. The song spent enough time on the chart in 1980 that it ended up as the #38 song of the year.
The song was included on the album Streisand had out at the time, but apparently enough was not enough: A 10+ minute version was mixed for Summer’s album. How I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Streisand found out…
Memorable lyric: “It’s raining, it’s pouring. My lovelife is boring me to tears after all these years.”
