Song 1980-25: Fleetwood Mac, “Sara”

(Checking to see if my wife is in ear shot.)

(We’re safe.)

So here’s an ’80s act that the wife cannot stand. Like Tom Petty (see song 1980-22), it’s a vocal quality thing, and Stevie Nicks sings the lead on this one. I have no problem at all with this half-American/half-British band. Kind of like Jefferson Airplane/Starship (see song 1980-16), Fleetwood Mac went through some major lineup changes and therefore have some distinct differences in their sound from one decade to another.

The prominent piano and squeaky clean snare drum produced “Sara” was released in late 1979, reaching #7 in 1980 and ending up the #87 song of that same year.

Memorable lyric: “Drowning in the sea of love where everyone would love to drown.”
