Song 1980-36: Herb Alpert, “Rotation”

… and we come to our first instrumental song of the blog. Still riding high on the success of his #1 smash “Rise” (another instrumental) a year earlier, trumpeter Herb Alpert took this song into the top 40 (#30) in 1980. Herb Albert is no stranger to the HOT 100. In the ’60s and ’70s he appeared numerous times on the chart and continued that streak into the ’80s (we’ll be hearing more from Alpert later in this blog).

Just in case you ever wondered what the “A” in A&M Records stood for, now you know. As for the “M,” well, that doesn’t apply to 198x so that will need to remain a mystery.

“Rotation” was the only other HOT 100 single off the album also titled “Rise.”
