Song 1980-41: Tom Johnston, “Savannah Nights”

Now if you’re wondering why this song sounds so much like The Doobie Brothers, there is a simple explanation. Tom Johnston was the frontman for the group. He recorded a couple of solo albums in the late ’70s and early ’80s and scored with “Savannah Nights.” The song reached #34 on the HOT 100 chart in 1980.

Memorable lyric: “He is the King of Savannah nights. The inspiration, the ladies delight.”
