Song 1980-44: Cheap Trick, “Voices”

This makes two songs in a row by a band that was very popular in the ’70s but had to wait until the ’80s to achieve their greatest chart success.

Cheap Trick released four songs in the ’70s that ended up making the HOT 100 chart, including the live version of “I Want You to Want Me.” In the ’80s they saw ten songs appear on the chart, including a #1 song coming later. “Voices,” a track on their platinum award “Dream Police” album, reached #32 in 1980.

Memorable lyric: “Words don’t come out right. I try to say it oh, so right. I hope you understand my meaning.”
