Song 1980-46: Santana, “You Know That I Love You”

Long before “Santana” was used as a character name for FOX Television’s musical comedy Glee, the world associated the name with guitar legend Carlos Santana. His ever-changing band lineup has seen instrumentalists and vocalists go on to become members of groups such as Journey, Genesis and REO Speedwagon. Carlos formed a band in ’60s and decided to name it after himself. Hey, when you can play even half as good as Carlos can, you have my permission to name a band after yourself.

“You Know That I Love You” reached #35 in 1980. It is their first of six songs to appear in the HOT 100 in the ’80s.

Memorable lyric: “Many lovers they come and go, but your sweet loving lingers on and on.”
